3 Questions to help business owners REFLECT & REACT weekly. (SAVE THIS!)

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of running your business.

But it’s important to pause and check in on whether you’re hitting the KPIs to reach your short and long term goals.

That’s why - every Friday - I carve out time to ask myself these 3 questions.

1️⃣ Am I on track to meet my goal?
Whether you set up monthly money goals or something else, it’s important to divide that number into 4. That becomes your weekly goal and you can check in each week to see if you’re on track.

2️⃣ Did I do everything in my power to meet the goal?
Time for some ACCOUNTABILITY. Here’s where you need to pull up your big CEO pants and be honest with yourself. We all have days where we scrolled too much on IG and got sidetracked. That’s ok. But if you reflect and find yourself consistently not doing all you can do, then it’s time to change that.

3️⃣ Do I need to adjust my numbers next week to hit my goal?
This goals back to # 1. If you didn’t meet your goal then doing this exercise weekly allows you to adjust the remaining weeks’ numbers to spread out how to make up this week’s low numbers and still meet your goal.

Which is a heck of a lot nicer than getting to the last week of the month and scrambling for sales or simply coming up short.

Ever since I implemented this in my business, I’ve hit my money goals (and surpassed them!). Now I’m challenging you to do this too.

So SAVE this post and set a task for yourself this Friday to ask yourself these 3 questions.

It’s rare that someone’s just going to offer to get you there, so you need to take the steps to get yourself there, with your head held high.

I know you love what you do and could do it 24/7, but I’m telling you that you have to let go of that mindset to take your business to the next level.

That “do it all yourself” mentality is a small business blockade 🪤 that goes along with a “lack of” mindset.

“I can’t hire a junior to take over projects because my clients expect me take care of them.”

“It’s too expensive to hire someone, so I’ll just Google for 90 hours until I figure it out.”

“That coach I love charges a ton, so I’m just going to try using her freebies.”

🤦🏻‍♀️ Sound familiar?

Don’t be embarrassed, I have these blocks too. Throw on a sprinkle of perfectionism and you’re right there on my level, honey. (Heck, if there was an award for being a DIY Boss in my year one, I’d have won 1st prize, 2nd prize, and runner up!)

But that’s small business mindset shit. That’s why so many small creatives stay small and don’t grow outside their network.

The truth may not be what you’re ready to hear, but you can’t carve space to scale if you’re the one hustling to wear every hat in your business. Speaking as a recovering DIYer...your world, schedule, and potential for making more money expand as you let go of that control.

Think on that as you go into the weekend preparing to work as hard as you did all week. 👀

Having boundaries in business is you saying I DESERVE BETTER.

As coaches and service-based businesses, we're taught that to have a steady flow of happy [paying] clients, we should overdeliver and meet our customer's demands because happy customers = paying customers.

That’s all fine and dandy until someone oversteps your boundaries.

🔽 HANDS UP IF YOU EVER HAD A CLIENT 🔽
❌ Scope creep - trying to get extra services [for free]
❌ Expect immediate responses to their messages at all hours
❌ Be late to sessions because they forgot
❌ (My fav) Expect endless revisions, even months or a year later

Yeah, no deary. Letting them do this isn’t giving you happy clients. It’s setting a pattern that it’s acceptable to overstep, expect champagne on a “water on the rocks” budget and it invites more clients from hell.

Happy clients start by having healthy boundaries in your business.

✨ That’s why it’s so important to have things like: contracts, policies, scopes of work, client expectations, communication policies, O F F I C E H O U R S - it's all part of setting boundaries and setting the tone of your working relationships.

It creates clear expectations of a provider and client relationship results in less unhappy clients which leads to having stellar customer service and clients who sing your praises.

🧠 YOUR BRAIN IS LYING TO YOU about what you need to do to grow your business. Seriously, it will make you obsess over busy, profitless tasks that you think will grow your service or coaching biz, when what you really need to focus on ($-making tasks) don't get done.

Does that sound like your brain? Because it sure as heck was mine back in 2017.

It's easy to start diving into the rabbit whole of IG gurus who all tout strategies that sound great but they aren't quite helpful. (Mostly because they only show you steps ABC on the 'Gram and in their freebies, while you don't get to see the D-Z steps where the real money lies until you pay up).

We like to think doing things like pumping out freebie after freebie to get people on your email list or creating the graphics to support 20 Pins a day for 30 days (gag) will magically bring our ideal PAYING clients to us - running in slo mo like a romantic comedy.

But then it doesn't. Then you're exhausted. It makes your new or slightly less profitable business taste a little sour.

So how do you fix it before you're circling the drain of fed up and give up?

Focus on what really grows your business
1️⃣ Get niched AF
2️⃣ Know thy audience like they're your fav boy band back in middle school
3️⃣ Fudge freebies - you only need one amazing one
4️⃣ Create low ticket, no brainer offers that lead into your brilliant high-ticket, high-value services and offers
5️⃣ AND GET OFF those God-awful follow-for-follow Facebook thread-loving groups (Seriously. Stop it.)

You may feel some resistance doing this. Your brain may tell you this is madness and not to listen to the short nerdy girl on IG. That's ok. I'll tell you what I tell my best friend when she is battling her brain.

🤷🏻‍♀️Your emotions are stupid and they don't matter.

At all. Trust me, I've battled my brain too. What matters is that you get your shiz together and start making profit because you're talented, pretty, working your bum off, and you deserve it.
