Client Homework

Welcome to my client onboarding page! Here's what you need to know, do, and get in place before our start date.

On this page you will find:

  • Help with purchasing your domain (if you haven’t already).
  • A questionnaire to provide me information I'll need to create your website.
  • What I need from you before your project starts.
  • Helpful tips for providing helpful feedback.

Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you need any help. I’m always happy to hop on a Zoom call or chat via email if you need me to talk you through anything!

A domain is the URL of your website (eg. If you have already purchased a domain from somewhere then you can skip this step!

I recommend buying your domain through GoDaddy.

  • To register your domain with GoDaddy, head this way and check if your domain is available.
  • To register your domain with GoDaddy, head this way and check if your domain is available.
  • Click the ‘buy' button next to the domain you want.
  • Purchase your domain.
  • If you want to rank on Google or sell something directly on your website, you'll need an SSL certificate. (Not all SSLs are the same!) I recommend you get one or ask me how to do this.

If you have slow website hosting or no website hosting, this section is for you.

Who your website host is determines how fast your website will be. How fast your website is determines if people will stay or bounce off your page for slow page loading and whether Google thinks your site is too slow to suggest to its users.

  • If you have fast website hosting, just fill out the secure form in section 4 (below) with the login information
  • If you have slow or no website hosting, please ask me about my agency's Managed WordPress Hosting for $30/m. (Note, if you haven't purchased an SSL and want to host with us, we offer an SSL for free, so please don't worry about purchasing one.)

This questionnaire takes anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour. You just need this completed before our start date, so don't worry about rushing to get it done the day it's originally sent to you!

Before the start of your project, I need you to upload any “must have” or pre-written website content (images & text) or provide the Google Drive link, Dropbox link, or a link from another could-based file-sharing program for me to grab your content.

The content you can upload:

  • Text for all of your pages (including headers)
  • Opt-in form text
  • Opt-in button text
  • Sidebar text
  • Button text

Please note that as the design develops, I may need to have your copy changed to better fit the design.

I only accept images via your provided Google Drive folder link, Dropbox link, or another link from a could-based file-sharing. Please name your images, or put them into folders and name each folder, where you want them to go. (Eg. About page, Contact page etc.) If you're not sure or don't have a preference, just upload them all in one link.

Images must be a minimum of 1500 pixels wide and 700 pixels tall. The bigger, the better!

If you don't have very high-quality photos, I can recommend some stock photo sites.

Images must be in the following file formats: .jpeg, .PSD, .Ai, or .png.

You can help me do a really good job by providing me with organized, helpful feedback on your designs. I collect all website feedback via 1 Google Document that I will email to you when it's time. Here are some tips!

  • Try and use bullet points when you're listing revisions.
  • Break up your feedback into paragraphs.
  • Separate your feedback into sections. For example, feedback about your website footer could go under the header ‘website footer' and feedback about your header could go under the header ‘website header'.
  • Be as specific as you can.
  • If there is more than one person providing feedback, please gather your feedback into one message instead of posting multiple messages.

Feedback like this really helps the design process run smoothly. Thanks for your cooperation! You're the best.

A Note From April:

Can I just say again how excited I am to help you design your dream (highly converting) website?! I know this seems like a lot to ask you to do before I ever design anything, but trust me getting all the (what I equate to) “paperwork” done before we start, makes the design process go smoother and much quicker. There will always be a need for more photos, edited copy, more copy, or those “OMG, my profile photo make me look like I'm from the 70s” freak out moments – and I understand that. Just know I'm here to add, subtract, and send you “You look awesome, what are you talking about?!” support.

Don't be a stranger!

*Note: As of May 20, 2019, my (might as well be) sister is in the hospital on bed-rest before her baby comes. When I get the call, I'm literally buying a plane ticket to be there. If your call falls during the time I'm on the plane or during the birth, I will let you know ASAP, apologize, and request a different date. Thank you for understanding during this risky time.
